Mother Natures Last Big Smile

I love Autumn. The stunning colours on the trees, the carpets of leaves on the ground , the crisp air. But mostly because it is a season for balancing light and dark, for letting go and accepting the impermanence of things. As we watch leaves fluttering to the ground, we are reminded that nature cycles are mirrored in our own lives. Autumn is a time for releasing things that have been a burden to us and allowing our minds to start afresh.

On the Autumn equinox, day and night are of equal length; This signals the need to balance light and darkness within ourselves - far too often we fear the dark and adore only the light . I have gratefully learnt to acknowledge how darkness has become less of an enemy for me and more of a place of silent nuture. Not only is light a welcomed part of my life, but I am also understanding how much I need to befriend my inner darkness.

As those of you that have suffered from any sort of mental health challenge will know, if you can be on good terms with your inner darkness then half the battle is won. I've learnt to accept that the darkness will sometimes come, but I know it won't last forever so I accept it, embrace it and move on through my journey to reach the light again.

Be mindful of this as you walk amongst the golden trees and soak up the beauty of it, the incredible cycle of the changing seasons.

I am such an Autumn person. Give me a quiet, cozy spot in front of a log fire, with a view of the gorgeous trees and their colourful leaves on a crisp November day and a good book and I will be in my happy place.
